Pond
Maybe temperature is still too low, however, spring really has started now. In your pond plant growth continues. Carefully watch whether the filter is still supplying enough water. If necessary, rinse filter materials. Like all birds, also herons have their young now. This implies a threat for your pond fish. The growing month of May is an ideal period to set new plants. It is also possible then to separate water lilies and thin out marsh plants.

Fish
You should still inspect your fish for the presence of any symptoms of disease. The sooner a disease will be treated the quicker fish will recover. You should feed your fish generously now. However, take care that all feed distributed will be taken in. It is better to feed smaller portions a number of times at intervals than too much at once.

In the month of May also new fishes can be planted. It is wise to keep new fish in a quarantine reservoir prior to planting them out. Observe them carefully. Think that 75 to 80 % of death of fish occurs after planting new fish.  

Maintenance
A clear water surface is important for taking in oxygen and for removing a surplus of CO2. Consequently you should remove surface dirt regularly. To this end the Pond Skimmer of Velda, a surface exhauster, will come in useful here. This skimmer, which includes a water pump, provides a clean water surface so that also fish will be better visible.
