During the winter months, the pond is at “rest. The fish are less active and less visible. But as soon as spring arrives, you can start the pond chores and soon have a healthy pond again. Velda makes it easy with a step-by-step plan for spring maintenance.
Slowly the days are getting longer and the sun is showing itself more often. The first spring blooms may not be here yet, but with a few smart tips you can have your pond ready for the coming pond season in no time.
Step by step
Step 1 Start Up Pond | After a long winter, the condition of the fish and pond environment has deteriorated significantly. Start up the pond with a spring treatment. Biofit neutralizes harmful substances in the water and strengthens the mucous membrane of the pond fish.
Step 2 Algae prevention | Organic material is a food source for algae in the spring. Use Algae Stop to eliminate this food source and Bio-Oxidator to remove pond bed silt. This will significantly reduce the chance of algae growth.
Step 3 Water hardness level | Measure water values and bring them up to standard with GH Plus and KH Plus. GH values between 8° and 12°DH and KH values between 6° and 8°DH are ideal for the pond. Test regularly to gain insight into the development of the pond environment.

Step 4 Add Bacteria | Give nature a hand with Bacterial. These water purifying bacteria start up the pond and immediately begin the biological “cleaning” process. This keeps the pond water clear and the biological balance is quickly restored.

Step 5 Prevent green water | Algae can appear early in the spring, even before aquatic plants begin to grow. The UV-C lamp in the filter kills floating algae and ensures clear water. Replace the lamp in the spring for lasting results.

Step 6 Attention to Planting | Now the pond is ready to add new aquatic plants. Existing water lilies and marsh plants can be propagated and transplanted. Use large plant baskets and the proper pond planting soil. Take Lelite for your water lilies.
