ORBIS story from A to Z
Behind the elegant design of the Orbis line is a thoughtful system that ensures healthy water quality and a thriving ecosystem. Whether you choose the freestanding mini pond or the sunken Bio-Pond, we’ve thought of every detail.
Clear Water, without worries
A common concern with standing water is mosquito nuisance. With the Orbis line, that’s a thing of the past. Thanks to the integrated pump with waterfall, the water is constantly moving. Mosquitoes prefer to lay their eggs in stagnant water; the subtle flow in an Orbis pond naturally prevents this process.
In addition, the waterfall is equipped with a special carbon filter. This filter works in two ways:
Purification: It filters organic dirt particles from the water.
Odor and Color: The activated carbon absorbs dyes and unpleasant odors, keeping the water crystal clear and fresh.
A Boost for Local Wildlife
Even a small body of water has a huge attraction for nature. For insects such as bees and hoverflies, a mini pond is a crucial watering hole, especially during dry periods. The waterfall also provides additional oxygen to the water, which is essential for the micro-life that underlies a healthy garden. Birds will use the edges of the Orbis to bathe and drink, transforming your garden into a lively gathering place in no time.
The green finish: planting advice
A mini pond really comes to life with the right planting. Since the space is compact, we recommend working with plants that do not grow too large, but have a high functional value:
Oxygen plants: Use Needleweed (Crassula helmsii) or Waterweed, for example. These keep the water clear and produce oxygen immediately.
Marsh plants: Dwarf Glisod (Typha minima) or Dwarf Glis (Iris pumila) add height and structure to your pond without overgrowing the container.
Floating Plants: Chickweed or Little Waternail provide shade on the water’s surface, which helps prevent algae blooms and provides hiding places for aquatic animals.
People often think that to increase biodiversity you have to dig a huge pond, but nature doesn't count in square meters, but in opportunities. With an Orbis mini pond, you instantly create a watering place and a nursery in places where there used to be only tiles. That's thinking small with big results.

Water is the source of all life, including on your patio or balcony. As soon as you place a mini pond, you will see the garden change: birds come to drink, insects find their way and the dynamics return. It is actually the shortest way to a healthy, self-regulating garden.

We've lost the connection to water in the garden a bit with urbanization. A mini pond brings that wonder back to the back door. It's fascinating to see how quickly nature "claims" such a spot and brings it to life.

If you choose an Orbis with waterfall, you immediately bring added value into your home. The watercourse is more than just a mood creator:
1. Purification of pond water
- Thanks to the included activated carbon filter bag, the water is purified as it flows past the waterfall. Together with the quiet and safe 36V pump, the water stays clear and healthy.
2. Calming effect
- The gentle babbling of the waterfall provides relaxation, cooling and a pleasant atmosphere – a valuable addition to any outdoor or indoor space.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a mini pond safe for children and pets?
Yes, the Orbis products are a lot safer than a traditional deep pond due to their compact size and limited depth. In addition, the Orbis Mini Pond and Planter are elevated (in the wicker basket), making them less accessible to crawling toddlers. For the Bio-Pond, we recommend finishing the edges with solid boulders; not only does this look natural, but it also creates a physical barrier.
How much maintenance does the pond need?
Surprisingly little! Thanks to the carbon filter in the waterfall, the water stays clear. All you have to do is occasionally fish out the fallen leaves and, in extreme heat, refill the water level with the garden hose. In the spring, you can prune the plants briefly to keep them in check.
Should I bring the pond in during the winter?
Orbis pond liners are made of durable material that can withstand frost. We do recommend that the pump and filter be temporarily removed and stored dry in severe frost. The container itself can simply remain outside.
Do I need a power point nearby?
Yes, the waterfall pump runs on electricity (The pump runs on a safe 36 volts and comes with a power adapter with waterproof cable). Provide a splash-proof outdoor power outlet. The consumption of these pumps is very low, similar to an energy-saving light bulb, so you don’t have to worry about the energy bill.
Will I be affected by algae?
Algae grow due to a combination of sunlight and too many nutrients in the water. With the constant circulation of the waterfall and the use of oxygen plants, “green soup” hardly gets a chance. Tip: Don’t place the pond in full, blazing sunlight all day; 4 to 6 hours of sunlight is ideal for plants and keeps algae growth at bay.
Can I keep fish in an Orbis mini pond?
For most fish, a mini pond is on the small side, especially since the water can heat up quickly in the summer. We recommend focusing on biodiversity: let the pond be a place for frogs, salamanders and insects. Still, do you really want a fish? Then choose up to 2-3 small goldfish, provided you keep a close eye on the water quality.
Will a mini-pond give me mosquitoes?
On the contrary! Mosquitoes love still water. The Orbis line features a pump and waterfall that keep the water moving continuously. Plus, a healthy pond attracts natural mosquito enemies, such as dragonflies, which actually help lower the mosquito population throughout your yard.
