Pond Care August

Are ‘gasping’ fish hungry?

On summer days, pond fish often come up to the surface to “bite. In high temperatures, the food requirements of pond fish increase and you can feed them several times a day. But “gasping” fish are not happy. They are in great need of oxygen. As temperatures rise, oxygen levels in the water decrease significantly. Aeration brings extra oxygen into the water and saves the fish from suffocation. The Silenta Outdoor pump withstands rainwater and stands next to the pond. The air hose carries oxygen to the air stone hanging in the pond. In the form of air bubbles, the oxygen is delivered to the pond water. In addition, harmful gases are removed by the bubbling air bubbles and the aquatic biotope remains healthy.

Evaporation and lack of rain can cause the water level in your pond to drop significantly. The fish have less swimming space and less oxygen! Top up the water level with tap water.

Highly digestible fish food

Feed pond fish generously in summer. Good quality fish food with high-quality ingredients is not only better for the fish; it is a wise choice for the pond. The right composition ensures that the food is well digested by the fish, providing excellent absorption of protein and other nutrients. Excrement is kept to a minimum, keeping pond water clean longer. Feed small portions several times a day for rapid fish growth and reduced droppings. In the pond, feeding in large quantities can lead to indigestion and pollution of the pond environment. Feed that is not eaten eventually sinks and is a food source for algae in the pond. The SaniKoi feeds contain only natural ingredients so the pond environment is not additionally polluted.

Ready for vacation

Go on vacation worry-free, without worrying about the pond and the fish. With a few points of attention, you can leave the pond well cared for.

  1. Measuring and adjustingwater parameters
  2. Control of filter, pump and aeration
  3. Protection from herons and cats
  4. Feeder for the fish
  5. Asking someone (with a pond) to pay attention

If you have taken the above measures, the pond is ready for vacation. But during your absence, something unexpected can always happen. Extreme weather or a power outage can be detrimental to the pond and your fish. Ask a pond owner friend to keep an eye out and enjoy your vacation worry-free.

Tip from Velda

Water movement while refilling the pond, such as with a broom head, provides additional oxygen in the pond.
