Roadmap for the spring and fall seasons

Welcome to Velda, your partner for a healthy and beautiful pond! Maintaining your pond is essential for a clear and healthy water environment, especially in spring, fall and winter. Here is an overview of the steps you can take to keep your pond in top condition:

Steps for effective pond maintenance

1Keeping Water Hardnessat Level

Check the quality of the pond water and increase hardness if necessary with GH Plus and KH Plus. Be sure to go into winter with a GH above 10° and a KH above 8°DH to minimize acidification.

Add 2Maërl

To protect the entire pond bottom in winter from acidification and bad gases. Pass maërl then into a watering can of water and spread over the pond surface.

3SheetRemoval

Dead plants and leaves in the pond are a food source for algae in the spring. Remove this organic material with the Duo Pond Tool or a scoop net. The less nutrients, the less chance of algae.

4Placing a cover net

Install a Cover Net to keep falling leaves and twigs out of the pond. These nets come in a variety of sizes and also protect your fish from hungry herons.

5FishFeeding

At water temperatures below 10°C, fish activity decreases. Switch to winter food, which has a low energy value and is easily digestible. This will keep fish in good condition during winter.

With these steps, you can ensure that your pond remains healthy and beautiful all year round. For more tips and advice, visit our blog or ask your questions via our Velda Facebook page. We’ll be happy to help!
