The pond from…. Han Hubers

Han Hubers’ pond.

In our new column “The pond of” we like to let a true pond lover have his say. This time we discuss the pond of Han Hubers from Gendt. Han is a true pond enthusiast and also a loyal follower of our Facebook page. We asked Han some questions about his pond and his fish and he also sent us some beautiful pictures of his pond.

Can you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Han Hubers, 25 years old and live with my wife in Gendt (Netherlands). We have a pond of 15,000 Liter.

How long have you had the pond?

We have had the pond for about 4 years now.

Why did you choose a pond at the time?

Since childhood my parents have always had ponds in different gardens. When I moved in together, the choice was quickly made to have a pond in our own garden. For me it is pure enjoyment when I can sit by the pond.

What kind of fish do you all have in the pond?

KOI carp ranging between 15 CM to 65 CM. There are also 2 large Sturgeons swimming in our pond.

What kind of fish food do you feed your fish?

Self-mixed feed including: color feed, growth feed and probiotic feed

How much attention per week do you pay to the pond?

Several times a day I take a look in the pond and feed them regularly. On weekends I do maintenance by cleaning the filter and skimmer, removing algae. With this I am + / – 2 hours busy.

What kind of equipment do you have in and around your pond?

I have the following products all in and around my pond: dirty water pump 10,000 Liter, 2 air pumps, UV Lamp 55 Watt, Vortex three chamber filter and a Skimmer.

What do you all do to keep your pond and the fish in the right condition?

We test the pond water weekly. When changing the water we add lactic acid. If the fish show unusual behavior, we take them to the KOI-doctor. Standard we go every two months with a fish to the doctor, even if there seems to be nothing.

What are you still missing in or around the pond?

Right now we are very happy with our beautiful pond!

We thank Han for his story about his pond and the beautiful photos he sent us. Do you also want to be in this section now? Then send us a private message via our Facebook page. If we invite you to participate in this column, we will send you some nice products as a thank you!
