The pond from…. Robin Okken

“The pond of” is a new section where we like to let a pond enthusiast have their say and while doing so we also show some pictures of the pond. The first pond we show is the pond of Robin Okken from Hoogeveen. We asked Robin some questions and he sent us some nice pictures of his pond. Below is his story!

How long have you had the pond?

“I’ve had the pond for about a year now! I moved last year and in my new garden I made this pond.”

Why did you choose a pond?

“I am a huge pond enthusiast, which is why I chose to build a pond in the garden.”

What kind of fish do you have in the pond?

“I have all kinds of different Koi in the pond. Also, Koi of different sizes, as you can see in the pictures.”

What kind of food do you feed your Koi?

“I give the Koi Sanikoi as well as Takesumi.”

What kind of filter did you put behind your pond?

“There is a 3 chamber filter behind the pond along with a 55 watt UV unit. In addition, I have another strong pump that pumps the water past the UV lamp and releases it back into the water through the filter. You can also see this in the picture.”

How much attention do you pay to the pond?

“I keep an eye on my fish every day. Especially since it’s still a fairly new pond. I measure the water temperature every day and in addition I check what condition the fish are in. I record all this in a logbook to make sure the fish are in the very best condition.”

Below are a few more photos of Robin Okken’s pond. You can see that to protect his pond from herons and cats he put a skeleton on it.
