In our column “The pond of” we like to let a real pond lover have his say again. This time we discuss the pond of John van de Weerd. John is a true pond enthusiast and we can certainly tell that from his answers. Of course we asked John the familiar questions and he also sent us some beautiful pictures of his pond and garden.
Can you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is John van de Weerd and I am self-employed. I have a cleaning company and am also a window cleaner. Married to Danielle van de Weerd and together we have 2 children. A daughter of 18 years and a son of 15 years!

How long have you had the pond?
I have had this pond for 3 years now. Before that I also had a pond, but it had a different shape and size. It was a lot smaller than the pond I have now.
Why did you choose a pond at the time?
I think a garden should always have something like water in it. Even if it is just a millstone or something else that is with water , but a garden without water is just not finished.
What kind of fish do you all have in the pond?
In my pond there are common goldfish. I also have a goldfin and 2 beautiful koi carp.
What kind of fish food do you feed your fish?
I feed my fish 3-color pellet fish food interspersed with SaniKoi pellets. These are excellent brands from Velda.

How much attention per week do you pay to the pond?
Not so bad. i think about 2 hours a week.
What kind of equipment do you have in and around your pond?
I use a pond pump that runs the water to a uv lamp and through a waterfall the water flows back into the pond.
What do you all do to keep your pond and the fish in the right condition?
Actually, not much. I remove dead leaves from plants. Repotting plants when they get too big in new planters. Young fish, frogspawn and salamanders every year. In my pond there is a nice biological balance .

What are you still missing in or around your pond?
I would like to have a Floating Fish Dome in my pond , to get an even better view of the fish.
We thanked John for his nice story and beautiful photos of his pond, plants and the rest of his garden. Would you like to be featured in our column now? Then send us a message via our Facebook page or send us an email via the contact page. If you are invited you will receive a nice gift from us.
