Pond Care June

In June, summer begins. Time to enjoy plenty of sunny days and long evenings by the pond. But also time for pond maintenance in June. Now the pond is at its best and nature is showing its best side. Birds, butterflies and dragonflies visit your garden and delight in the water feature. So enjoying the pond is paramount, but do keep an eye on the weather forecast. High temperatures, dry spells, as well as heavy rain and thunderstorms are points of interest for pond owners.

Oxygen plants in the pond keep the water clear and algae-free. Important for the growth of these plants is the acid-binding capacity of the water. Increase the carbonate hardness of the pond water with KH Plus and add CO2 Tabs for well-growing oxygen plants. Water lilies and pond plants grow and bloom profusely now. Give them extra nutrition by adding Ferro Plus iron supplement to the pond water.

Maintaining pond plants

Pond plants also grow massively to the water surface. If the water surface threatens to grow dense, it is wise to thin out the pond plants. Limit the number of lily pads by cutting them off below the water level. Preferably use special tools for this purpose. Lily leaves that grow too close together later protrude above the water, making them more susceptible to the lily beetle and more likely to die.

Pond care June: pond water

There is a lot of pollen and other dust blowing on and into the pond during the growing month. Therefore, keep the surface of the pond water clear using a surface extractor, such as a Pond Skimmer. Make sure that the KH value or carbonate hardness remains high enough during this period. This results in crisp clear water and prevents algae growth. The KH Value determines the “acid-binding capacity,” which in turn is important for oxygen plant growth.

Feeding fish in the summer

Feed pond fish generously in summer. With a water temperature above 15°C, you can feed your fish several times a day. But don’t give them too much, the fish food should be eaten within a few minutes. Food that is not eaten eventually sinks and is a food source for algae in the pond. Several small portions a day is better than a lot of food all at once.

In summer, a feeder at the pond is a useful tool. A Fish Feeder feeds multiple measured portions of food per day, up to 20 feedings per 24-hour period. A Fish Feeder takes care of the complete feeding needs of your fish; convenient for daily use and ideal during vacations. Replenishing the feed reservoir on time is all you have to do.
