Soft pond water, having a GH value (= calcium and magnesium hardness, also referred to as total hardness, expressed in dH) lower than GH 5 °dH can easily become acid. Continuous rainfall will intensify this process. Especially in autumn and winter this can result in death of fish. Also the growth and development of oxygen producing plants (like hornwort, waterweed and pond weed) will be inhibited at a too low GH value. A healthy and stable pond environment has a total hardness ranging from GH 8 to 12 °DH. Regular inspection (4 to 5 times a year) of the GH value is therefore desired. If the value will decrease below GH 7 °DH, measures have to be taken. With the help of Velda GH Plus the total hardness can be increased without any problem. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Accurately calculate the water capacity of your pond. To increase 250 litres of pond water by ca. 3 °DH you need 25 ml (= one capful) of Velda GH Plus. Now calculate the quantity of GH Plus you need for your pond. Mix this quantity of GH Plus with 10 litres of water and spread it over the water surface, using a watering can. A high pH value can have an interfering influence on the dissolving power of Velda GH Plus. The result can often only be measured after a couple of weeks. If also the KH value (acid binding power) of the pond water is too low, it can be increased by applying Velda KH Plus. Velda GH Plus and KH Plus may not be applied at the same time.
