In a watery country, the great blue heron often is an unwanted guest on pond sides. Colourful fish in a clear pond are an easy prey for this fish eater, which can be recognized by the black crest at the back of its head. On its long legs it carefully wades through shallow water or it quite still waits for its prey. The pond fish is taken by surprise of the super-fast movement of the long bill. An adult heron can swallow a fish of 30 cm. He will come back till it has fished out the pond completeley.
