Wireworm

Wireworms

Threadworm, also called bandworm belong to the roundworms or Nematodes, and nest in the intestines of fish. As the name implies, they look like threads. Their length can vary from a few millimeters to several centimeters. Unlike parasites, worms are male or female. Thus, they need each other to reproduce. Consequently, the multiplication of bandworms is slower. Threadworms often use live feed as intermediate hosts. These worms can come into contact with the fish through birds or through live feed. Symptoms of wireworm infection may include; discoloration of the body, decreased appetite and emaciation of the fish, despite it eating well. In addition, the fish’s feces may change color and look slimy.
