Making pond childproof
The pond and aquatic life have a huge attraction for people. And certainly to children. Of course you educate children about the dangers of water and familiarize them with the pond. But friends also come to play in the garden. These are not always familiar with a pond. Dangerous situations can always arise for playing children who have free access to the pond. To minimize these dangerous situations, there are a number of precautions to take for a child-safe pond.
You can never make a pond truly child safe. But there are some tips that help make the pond child-friendly and safer:
- Make sure the pond is highly visible. Pond lighting helps with this during the dark months.
- NEVER leave children alone near the pond.
- Construct a raised pond, or make the edges higher.
- Place a fence around the pond. In doing so, leave walking and sitting space around the pond so you can still enjoy your pond.
- DO NOT let the children feed the fish alone, even if they like to do so.
- Cover the pond.
The above tips are no guarantee that nothing will happen. But can make the pond child-friendly.
