UV filter or UV-C filter

With a UV filter, pond water is pumped past a bulb that emits ultraviolet light. The light kills many harmful organisms such as algae, for example. Algae and other organisms turn your pond into a green mess. Especially if you have a pond with a lot of fish. A UV filter is ideal to keep your fish pond, but also swimming ponds and mirror ponds, permanently clean and clear. Velda has several UV-C lamps in its range. How does a UV filter work?

A UV filter is not actually a filter, but an addition to existing filtration techniques. The pond water is passed past an ultraviolet lamp. This sterilizes the water and kills algae, germs and fungi. Especially floating algae. And that at a very low contact time. I.e. the flow rate of the water is allowed to be high. The lamp, the UV-C unit, is in the first filter phase.

Purchasing a UV filter

In a UV filter or uvc filter, the pond water is pumped one more time past a lamp that emits ultraviolet lightThe UV lamp must be present when starting the pond. Once there is widespread floating algae in the pond, a UV filter will not be able to remove the algae quickly. It is recommended that the UV filter be on constantly from early April to late October.

A UV-C unit should always be used in conjunction with another pond filter. Also, always check if the UV-C unit has a circuit breaker. This will prevent contact with the harmful radiation during maintenance. For optimal operation, it is important to replace the UV-C lamp annually. That way you will have a clear pond throughout the pond season.

Also, always pay attention to the strength of the UV-C lamp. The rule of thumb for application of a UV filter is 2 to 3 watts per 1000 liters of pond water.
