Fish TB

Fish TB, also called fish tuberculosis, is an umbrella term for mostly chronic bacterial infections, which can be caused by various bacteria. Fish tuberculosis weakens the fish, after which other pathogens usually cause the death of the fish. Fish infected with fish tuberculosis can be recognized by bulging eyes and a sunken belly. They may also swim sluggishly and become less appetite. It is always wise to quarantine sick fish outside the pond.

Treating fish TB

Unfortunately, fish tuberculosis is not treatable. There is often nothing left but to euthanize the infected fish. Fish tuberculosis is often caused by contaminated substrate. Adding new pond substrate from time to time works preventively. Also remove excess bottom mud regularly. There are also agents for sale to break down the bottom silt naturally.
