Pond edge hard stone
There are several types of bluestone to make your pond surround. Besides granite, these include Chinese bluestone and Vietnamese Bluestone.
Chinese bluestone
Chinese bluestone is by far the most popular natural stone product in recent years. This compact gray/blue limestone was formed millions of years ago. It is characterized by the numerous fossils and spots (stains) that appear in the stone. Chinese bluestone is excellent quality and beautiful in color. Moreover, it has a timeless character, and is applicable to many types of ponds. Due to the deposition of lime, Chinese bluestone will repair itself from minor damage. Stains and superficial scratches will disappear by themselves. Over the years, the deposition of lime causes the product to gray.
Vietnamese Bluestone pond border
A mix of gray and blue typifies this Vietnamese stone. It barely scratches and over time this limestone lightens slightly, creating a beautiful aged look. However, the beautiful colors remain. So you can enjoy a Vietnamese Bluestone pond border for a long time. The price/quality ratio is favorable of Vietnamese Bluestone.
TIP! from Velda
Wait until the pond is filled with water before installing a hard stone pond border. This is because filling the pond causes the liner to set, causing movement and the edge to become dislocated.
Tip on laying hard stone
Provide a concrete base on which to glue the liner and the hardstone. Provide an overflow pipe in the pond to make sure there is no water between foil and the stone when it freezes. Otherwise, the stone slabs will become loose.
We have another tip for you if you are going to use hard stones for your pond edge. Wait until the pond is filled with water before installing the hardstone pond edge. Filling will cause the liner to set which will cause it to move. If you were to apply the edge before filling, the filling could cause the edges to break loose and/or the pond liner to crack.
Maintenance of bluestone
Hardstone pond edges often have a layer of dirt and algae over time. To keep the edges clean, special brushes have been developed. The bristles are flexible, yet sturdy enough to remove dirt and algae easily and without much effort.
