The goldfin, the ideal ornamental pond fish
The goldfin is an orange-colored fast but skittish ornamental fish that can reach 25 to 50 cm in length. Its color ranges from deep orange to pale orange, mostly with dark-colored spots. Pond size determines how large golden windies eventually grow. Two-year-old goldfinches are about 16 cm tall, five-year-old goldfinches 34 cm and ten-year-old goldfinches can reach 50 cm. The pond should therefore be at least 80 cm deep throughout and not have much planting.
Please note that goldfinches are jumpers and the edge of the pond should be such that the fish cannot easily jump out.
The goldfin is a strong fish that does not get sick easily. A powerful filter is definitely necessary because the fish likes clean water. The goldfin can be kept with almost all other pond fish. They are also sometimes kept together with koi, but it must be said that koi show less calm and tame behavior when raised together with goldfinches. The behavior of the fish comes into its own especially in a somewhat larger school of 10 to 20 fish. In any case, place them in groups of at least five fish and no more than five fish per cubic meter of water.
TIP! from Velda
Goldwindes are jumpers and the edge of the pond should be such that these fish cannot easily jump out of the pond.
