Hole Disease

Hole Disease

Hole disease in pond fish can be recognized by the round spots on the body of the fish. In all cases, this condition is a bacterial infection. The onset of this infection can come from poor resistance of the fish, combined with poor water quality. The pathogens that cause the disease are always present in the pond. If the mucous membrane of the fish is affected, due to, for example, too high nitrate levels in the water, the bacteria may be able to settle on the skin of the fish. This can then cause hole disease.

Treating hole disease

Special medications are available for treatment of the disease. Also change 2/3 of the pond water. Then filter the water well. A good filter with activated carbon offers a solution because it can remove micro-fine particles from the water. It also filters out various pathogens. Preventing disease can be done by making sure the fish have and maintain sufficient resistance. A must for this is feeding the fish with a high-quality fish food that keeps them in good condition.
