Fish Feed
There are many types of fish food. Some fish food is suitable for certain fish because of its composition and properties. Other food is suitable for use in certain seasons, think of cold periods. It is very important for your fish that you feed them with a high-quality fish food. Healthy fish are characterized by a beautiful color pattern and stable growth.
Feed your fish several times a day. Make sure that the fish food is eaten within 5 minutes, because food that is not eaten can create additional waste for your pond and a strain on the biological balance. The result is then algae growth and cloudy water.
Different types of fish food for pond fish
You have special foods made for fish, but foods from nature are also a good source of nutrition.
Natural food source
In the wild, aquatic insects and flies are an important part of the fish menu of goldfinches, silverfinches, bluegill, goldenrods, the chub and sunfish, among others. They therefore love fish food consisting of freeze-dried water insects and water flies. This floating feed is very high in protein, while the fat content is minimal. Due to the natural composition of the food, the water does not cloud and the pond environment and filter are virtually unaffected.
Silkworms form an important part of the fish menu of ornamental koi in nature. Fish food consisting of dry-steamed silkworms is therefore very suitable for ornamental koi. The feed is very high in protein and can ensure strong growth, optimal condition and great resistance. It is a floating natural food that can be used at water temperatures of 10 °C and higher.
Other types of fish food
In addition, there are special floating pellets for all types of ornamental pond fish. Especially large(er) fish love it. The feed consists of vegetable proteins, fats and carbohydrates enriched with vitamins and trace elements. It is a floating staple food that can be used at water temperatures of 10°C and higher.
There is also special flake food that is easily digestible and liked by all types of ornamental pond fish. It is a floating and balanced food composed of fish products, vegetable proteins, fats, carbohydrates and supplemented with plankton. For an optimal condition and great resistance, this feed is enriched with additional vitamins.
Special fish food
There are also special foods to enhance the color pattern of, for example, goldfish, goldfish and carp-like fish. In addition to the main ingredients such as fish and seafood products, vegetable proteins, fats and carbohydrates, Spirulina algae are added that can provide an intense color pattern. Additional trace elements and vitamins, including the stabilized vitamin C, are also added to promote fish resistance. Pay attention to a natural composition of your fish food so that it will have virtually no impact on the pond environment.
TIP! from Velda
At lower temperatures, fish have lower energy requirements and often stay at the bottom of the pond, where the water is warmer. Therefore, during the cold periods of the year, use special sinking winter food with low energy value
For sturgeon there is special sinking feed with high energy value tailored to the metabolism of the ornamental pond sturgeon. The main ingredients consist of fish products, vegetable proteins, fats and carbohydrates. In addition, good sturgeon food has added trace elements and vitamins.
Since fish are cold-blooded animals, their activity decreases significantly below 10 °C and with it their energy requirements whereby the food intake slows down. Furthermore, at lower temperatures the fish stay more at the bottom of the pond, where the water is slightly warmer. Therefore, during the cold periods of the year, use special sinking winter food with low energy value and added Immune Stimulator to improve resistance.
