Shubunkin, with pearl appearance
The Shubunkin (Shubunkin rhodolatinus) is an attractive breeding variety of the common goldfish. The beauty of the Shubunkin is its mottled color pattern of red, yellow, orange, blue, white and black combined with the metallic and transparent scales. This gives the fish a kind of pearl look. They have a single tail and long spotted fins. The shape of the body is that of an ordinary goldfish.
Shubunkin grooming
The Shubunkin is a strong fish that does not get sick very easily. Although they are susceptible to carp lice and fungus, like so many carp-like fish. To overwinter the fish, the pond should be at least 70 cm deep. For reproduction, shallow areas about 15 cm deep are needed. The bottom should be of a coarse composition because they root quite a bit in the bottom and this reduces the amount of dust that accumulates.
The fish likes aquatic plants in the pond, but definitely needs swimming space as well. It should best be kept in a school of at least 5. They go well with koi, goldwindes and goldfish.
Fish food for the Shubunkin
The Shubunkin likes balanced food that is easily digestible. We recommend feeding our 3-Colour Pellet or Rondett Fish Food to the fish. This food is optimally balanced for the Shubunkin and is available at all major garden centers and fish specialists.
