The golden tench (Tinca tinca auratus) is a bred form of the tench originally from Europe. It is also called the doctor fish because it is claimed that this fish keeps other fish from getting sick. The tench’s skin is said to contain an antibiotic that protects other fish. However, this is a fable, but golden tench do keep the water cleaner, which in turn helps other fish. You can recognize golden seals by their orange color with often dark spots. Combine gold seals in the pond with koi carp, because gold seals eat the feces of the koi carp.
